For this movie I came up with the concept then directed my friend's acting as well as guiding my other friend in how to shoot footage and how the scene lays out with my own equipment. I then edited the movie myself. The movie depicts a young woman who is stuck in her mundane life as if it is on loop. As she tries to get ready she becomes so frustrated and overwhelmed that she needs a big change. Her big decision is on whether or not she decides to cut her hair. In the end she gathers it all up and chops it off.
2020 the musical (a working title)
For my senior capstone I decided to focus on two aspects. Filming and directing. For filming I satisfied that need with my Admissions film. At the very beginning of 2020 I choose to pivot my future from acting on stage to a more directorial role. Because of this I looked into film majors all across the country, applying to 10 colleges all together. From some of these film schools you had to crest a short film that emulated your story telling ability and skills. That eventually came to my short film that I made. I loved that experience of directing a project so much that when I heard we were still gonna put on a musical at Skyline written by skyline students I asked Ms. Riddoch to assistant direct under her. She immediately said yes and we begun the process of spreading the word and beginning the process of writing an entire musical for the spring semester that would employ the use of film for the first time. The writing process took about two and a half to three months to complete starting in mid November and ending around mid February. For this section I mostly took notes for ms. Riddoch and compiled them into easy to read google documents to be shared and rewritten throughout the development process. I think where I really started stepping into that assistant directing role was mid January when the student body started returning in covid groups. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worst when Ms. Riddoch was injured and had to step back from the musical. While I was upset that I wouldn’t be learning directly from Ms.Riddoch I was extremely thankful that when she left to recover she trusted me and her student teacher Ms. Carter to Co-direct. And Co-Direct we did, I was able to completely take charge of multiple scenes from conception to the stage and block and choreograph my own ideas while simultaneously being a part of the filming process and how sceanes would look from the camera working with fellow students Alex Seoun. I’m extremely proud of the scenes I brought to life and the actors I was able to guide throughout who are my own friends that trusted me with this process as well. While we haven’t opened yet I am already pleased with the finished product and am glad I can say that 2020 the musical has my name on it.
