Les Miserables was my second musical at skyline. This was by far the most challenging thing I’ve ever done as an actor. I came into this show with little knowledge on music and had to learn almost everything from scratch. I was cast as Misour Thenardier with one of my great friends, Matty Bush playing Madam Thenardeir. I had seven solo songs and nine scenes all together for this production. In the end I feel this was a great production of Les Mis, a very stressful one full of ups and downs, but I know we made the most of what we had and can say I improved a lot vocally from School of Rock to this musical.
Clue! On Stage
Clue! On stage was truly one of the most fun productions I was apart of. Everything about felt special. One thing that sticks out to me was that the set design for Clue was one of the best we’ve ever had at Skyline. I played the cop who gets murdered with a candlestick. The picture above shows said call being made and cut off after the “mysterious figure” (Ben Morrison) comes from behind to murder me. Though I wasn’t at rehearsal for a long time due to outside circumstances I came in ready to go, learned all my lines and made a character within two weeks and put on a great show.
Advanced Drama
I’ve been lucky enough to take advanced drama twice in my academic career but I’ll have to say there were two instances that stuck out to me that I’ve thought about every single time I’m directing my own piece. “Everything said has purpose” one of our main units was based on magic theatre. A special type of acting specifically aimed for children. Think the wiggles or the muppets. Let me tell you you gotta get seriously comfortable for magic theatre to be both convincing and fun. In the picture above is when we preformed for a class of children at Fall River elementary. The second instance I can think of was a monologue from the play “Flowers for Algernon” I recited a monologue of a man who was slowly losing his cognition and reflecting on that. If there was one point where acting just clicked for me and I finally understood what it’s all about it would be that monologue. Both of these methods pushed me out of my comfort zones to completely different extremes but after this class I truly felt like a more well rounded actor.
